Some watches simply tell the time. Others carry a sense of history on the wrist. The Tissot SRV falls firmly into the second camp, and it has just arrived in-store at Rivoli Jewellers in St Helier.
A Design with Real Heritage
Tissot launched the SRV to coincide with the Art Deco movement’s centenary, and the design influence is clear from the first glance. The collection draws on a Tissot model from the mid-1970s, which itself looked back to the brand’s own designs from the 1920s, giving the SRV a confident, geometric character rooted in nearly a century of design history.
Even the name has a story behind it. SRV is shorthand for Sapphire Rectangle V, referencing the faceted sapphire crystal, the watch’s rectangular case shape, and its water resistance rating. It’s a small detail, but one that adds a layer of intention to a watch that’s clearly been thought through rather than simply styled.
Striking, Wearable Design
What makes the SRV stand out on the wrist is its shape. Every model shares the same angular rectangular case with a multi-faceted sapphire glass on top, sitting over a hexagonal dial underneath. Each case comes in at roughly 28 by 31.5mm and under 8mm thick, so it stays slim and comfortable while still making a visual impact.
There’s genuine variety across the six-piece line-up, too. Choices include a stainless steel bracelet finished with a warm gold-toned bezel and a white mother-of-pearl dial, an all-gold-toned version with a matching mother-of-pearl face for a more uniform look, and a softer option pairing a gold-toned case with a tan leather strap and a silver dial featuring Roman numerals. Whatever your usual style, from understated to a bit more glamorous, there’s likely a version here that fits.
Designed for Everyday Wear
Underneath the eye-catching design, the SRV is built to be genuinely practical. It runs on a reliable quartz movement with a built-in low-battery warning, and uses a quick-release strap system, so swapping between the bracelet and a strap takes seconds. Combined with solid water resistance, it’s a watch that can move easily from a desk at work to dinner out, simply by changing how it’s worn.
An Easy Way Into Swiss Watchmaking
Part of the SRV’s appeal is that it doesn’t ask you to choose between affordability and quality. It sits at a price point that makes sense as a first proper Swiss watch, without feeling like a simplified or lesser version of what Tissot is known for. These are watches with their own identity, not a budget afterthought.
